“Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of little children. ” The Crow This quote is the first time I remember hearing any reference as God being (or could be) feminine. I am beginning this blog to see who all out there is interested in this topic! The Bible is the top selling book of all time from what I’ve read.. therefore, I cannot stop thinking about how if the Holy Spirit were addressed as “she” and our image of God to include her.. then how different things would be?
Christianity is my foundation of Faith (Baptist) however, as I got into the world, I had so many questions and learned about other religions and cultures. I think that is what Jesus did in his “18 lost ” years.. traveled, had experiences, and learned some things.. as many kids/young adults often do between 12-30.. trying to find out their identity and who they are apart from their Family, friends, culture, even their country.. what they think and feel. There are a lot of stories that go with this feeling I have that Mother NEEDS to replace the word spirit where appropriate as where it’s translated from Aramaic and Hebrew to mean feminine, rather than the Trinity thought of an assumed as being entirely male. There are interesting articles I’ve found over the past several years. Even if you look up gender of the Holy Spirit on Wikipedia, you find a list of scholars who have done work on the subject and have found the feminine in the translation of Spirit.. it is so simple yet so profound! Yet, you never hear any talk about it unless you dig to find anything on the subject. From what I’ve experienced to what I’ve seen- loved ones go through losing their Mothers, what it was like to lose contact with my Mother and to think that most of the whole world has grown up without a spiritual Mother! It explains the Family unit as the fundamental.. you cannot create a child without a Mother and Father.. To me, it’s interesting and explains so much! Do you think the public would be interested in a book that talks about this? In your own life, does this resonate with you? Do you think women would have been treated different if we included her gender as being part of God? Do you think the world, or the United States, specifically who have “In God We Trust” written on our money, pledge to our flag, One Nation Under God.. do you feel the role of women and men would be viewed differently if our imagery/iconography of God included Mother every time we saw or spoke those words? I do. I just want her to be acknowledged since scholars have found this evidence! Jesus said “Seek and you shall find”.. I cannot help but wonder, Why has there not been a book written on this? And if there has, can anyone point me in that direction because I have not found any yet?
